2. February 8, 2002: Tragedy (Portland, OR), Blown To Bits, Desobediencia Civil (Mexico and Oakland), Voetsek, Elephant Man @ Burnt Ramen Studios in Richmond, CA. 3. April 12, 2002: Skarp (Seattle, WA), Bread And Water (Austin, TX), Otophobia (Philadelphia, PA), Born/Dead, Garuda (Texas) @ Burnt Ramen Studios in Richmond, CA. 9. May 8, 2002: Watch Them Die, Blown To Bits, Depressor @ Kimo's in San Francisco. This was John The Baker's first showcase at Kimo's, so being cool at the time with him, we booked it and screened flyers.

The Burnt Ramen show was the bigger show - attendance wise.
12. August 16-18, 2002 in the Bay Area (Four shows in three days) and August 23-25, 2002 in the Los angeles area, with: Consume (Seattle), Born/Dead, Black Market Fetus (Iowa), Skarp (Seattle, WA), Desolation, Datura, Benumb, Reagan SS (Los Angeles, CA), Bumbklaatt (Mexico and Chula Vista, CA), Faces Of Death, Brainoil, Exitwound, Phalanx (Seattle, WA), Dystrophy, Voetsek, Thretning Verse, Lana Dagales, Blown To Bits, Deadfall, Massakro (Tijuana, Mexico), Coaccion (Tijuana, Mexico), SMD (Pico Rivera, CA), Beware (Los Angeles, CA), Kontraklasse (Long Beach), Fracas, New Earth Creeps, S.T.F.U. @ Gilman, Mission Rex, Burnt Ramen, Pyrate Cove aka Warm water Cove, the desert, and The Nightmare on Elm Street House in Long Beach, CA. The fest took place over two weekends. The Bay Area shows were a smashing success. The L.A. shows were a bit more disorganized after a good start in Long Beach. This fest featured Desolation's first show at Burnt Ramen, Bumbklaatt's first show at Gilman, Exitwound's triumphant although short lived return, and the biggest Warm water Cove show to that point. The entire fest was booked by myself with the exception of Datura who were booked by Christian Calinsky, and Phalanx who were booked by Will from Born/Dead.
13. Spetember 15, 2002: Submachine (Pittsburgh, PA), Born/Dead, S.T.F.U., Voetsek, Desolation, @ Burnt Ramen in Richmond, CA (First Final Ear2TheGround Punx show of 2002). Submachine were added to the bill at the request of Six Week's Records who had booked them the previous night at Gilman. The Burnt Ramen show outdrew the Gilman show yet again.
14. October 11, 2002: Exitwound, S.T.F.U., Lana Dagales, Elephant Man, Deadfall @ Gilman in Berkeley, CA (Thee Final Ear2TheGround Punx show of 2002). 15. April 4, 2003: Feederz (Seattle, WA), Born/Dead, Brainoil, Scurvy Dogs, Funeral Shock @ Gilman in Berkeley, CA (UGZ B-Day show). It was the Feederz first show at Gilman in over a decade, and also Funeral Shock's first Gilman show.
16. April 5, 2003: Jewdriver, Desolation (canceled), Case Of Emergency, Un'Cus, Solamente @ Punx No Presses in Oakland, CA
17. June 21, 2003: Thretning Verse (Los Angeles, CA), Eskapo, Malnourished, Pretty Little Flower (Texas) @ the 379 40th Street Warehouse in Oakland, CA.

19. April 9, 2005: S.M.D. (Pico Rivera, CA), Skarp (Seattle, WA), Deathtoll, Thretning Verse (L.A.), America's Dirty Thirtys, Oroku (Kansas), Butchered Hens @ the Arcadia Skate Ramp Hotel in Oakland, CA. Almost this entire bill was booked by Yapple (Deathtoll) first and myself second, and then Skarp got added after Burnt Ramen realized that we had a competing show that could hold it's own, basically.
20. April 23, 2005: Deathtoll, Cruevo, Laudanum, Eskapo, Hot Black Desiato @ the Arcadia Skate Ramp Hotel in Oakland, CA.
21. May 28, 2005: Retching Red, Jesusfuckingchrist, Fracas, IWKYF, America's Dirty Thirtys, Butchered Hens @ the Arcadia Skate Ramp Hotel in Oakland, CA (B.O.B. Fest Benefit Show).

23. November 27, 2005: Times Of Desperation, Dying in Your Beauty Sleep, Masacre, Utter Bastard, Skinned Alive, Short Changed, Echo Of Bullets @ The Pit Of Vulgarity in Oakland, CA (Speed Rulez BBQ 2005).
24. December 8, 2005: Watch Them Die, Deathtoll, One Hundred Suns @ The Metro in Oakland, CA (Benefit show for Steve Chinn).
25. December 9, 2005: Jesusfuckingchrist, Worhorse (Los Angeles), Holokaust (Los Angeles), One In The Chamber, Hightower @ the Pit Of Vulgarity in Oakland, CA (Phalyn and Larry Wolfley's B-Day Show). It should be noted that we contacted Worhorse and Holokaust through Yapple. Deathtoll had played shows with these bands in L.A. prior to this show. This weekend of shows (and eventually the entire tour) was nicknamed the "DISemeber To DISmember" by someone in Worhorse.
26. December 21, 2005: Iron Lung (Seattle, WA), Unpersons (Georgia and Oregon), Laudanum, California Love @ The Metro in Oakland, CA. California Love's first show.
PYRATE PUNX
PRESENTS:
1. February 9, 2002: Tragedy (Portland, OR), Tragatelo (Santa
Ana and Los Angeles, CA), Sangre Amado, Brainoil, Lesser Of Two,
@ Casa Sangre in Oakland, CA. I brought in Tragedy, Brainoil,
and Tragatelo. Marcus Da Anarchist brought in Lesser Of Two and
Sangre Amado. The show took place at a short lived Pyrate Punx
club in West Oakland. The cops busted it before Tragedy could
play.
2. March 1, 2003: Insidious (replaced Exitwound), Watch Them Die, I Love A Parade, Deadfall, Offering To The Sun, Coaccion (Tijuana, Mexico), Sangre Amado (canceled) @ Burnt Ramen in Richmond, CA (Marcus Da Anarchist's Barfday Bash 2003). This was a 50/50 deal with Marcus Da Anarchist doing half and us the other half of the booking.
LIBERTATIA 2003: I am listed as a booker for both Libertatia and Rivertatia 2003 (on the fest programs), but in reality the only band that I brought to the table for either event was Deathtoll.
3. July 9, 2004: Blown To Bits, Words That Burn (Wisconsin), Year Future (Los Angeles, CA), One In The Chamber, Uzi Suicide (Watsonville) @ Deathbyexcess Warehouse in Oakland, CA. This was a part of a weekend long Pyrate Punx B-Day celebration for Sam, which we called "Seaweed Sam's Struggle" because it coincided with three days of shows we already had planned. The "Struggle" name was just something I threw out to Marcus over the phone, and he used it on the flyer. That's that. We (Jay) booked this entire bill.
4. July 10, 2004: Deathtoll, Death By Excess, Inspector Double Negative, Dying In Your Beauty Sleep, Creepy @ Death By Excess Warehouse in Oakland, CA. This was a little bit more of a collaboration between myself and Marcus Da Anarchist. Marcus brought us Inspector Double Negative and Death By Excess. We supplied the rest.
5. July 11, 2004: One In The Chamber, Hot Black Desiato, New Earth Creeps, IWKYF, Mutual Abuse, Brutal Death @ The Ghost Port in Oakland, CA. Day three of Seaweed Sam's Struggle / Back To Oakland shows. We booked every band except Hot Black Desiato. One In The Chamber brought the PA to almost every show that ever took place at the Ghost Port and consequently they played every show.
6. September 11, 2004: Deathtoll, Scurvy Dogs, Coaccion (Mexico), Eskapo, One In The Chamber @ Death By Excess Warehouse in Oakland, CA. We booked every band aside from the Scurvy Dogs. Coaccion canceled and were replaced by Black Box, who were booked by Marcus Da Anarchist.
7. January 9, 2005: Deathtoll, Laudanum, Instant Asshole, Hot Black Desiato @ John Patricks in Alameda, CA (First Pyrate Punx BBQ at John Patrick's). We booked this entire bill as a away of helping to get the monthly Pyrate Punx BBQs off to a good start.
8. May 13, 2005: Hightower, Secret Order Of Tusk, Creepy. One In The Chamber @ John Patrick's in Alameda, CA (Pyrate Punx BBQ). I booked this in less than a week after Marcus forgot to do so amidst the confusion surrounding the three day celebration of his birthday the weekend before.
9. December 11, 2005: Thor (Canada), Deathtoll, Holokaust (L.A.), Worhorse (L.A.) @ John Patrick's in Alameda, CA (Final Pyrate Punx BBQ of the 2005). We booked every band except Thor, who came to us courtesy of Mauz from Life Is Abuse Records.
UNOFFICIAL SHOWS:
1. July 20, 2001: Raw Power (Italy), Decry (Los Angeles, CA), SMD (Pico Rivera, CA), Blown To Bits @ Gilman in Berkeley, CA. This was supposed to be a Jake Kelly show, but he was busy so I finished the bill for him. This was SMD's first Gilman show after a decade of trying, and it was also Blown To Bits' first Gilman show.
2. September 29, 2001: Life's Halt (Los Angeles, CA), Demon System 13 (Sweden), Beware (L.A.), Blown To Bits, S.T.F.U. @ Gilman in Berkeley, CA. The booker on the Gilman board for this one was Jake Kelly, but he was having issues at that time, so I stepped in and booked the entire show around the DS 13 tour date. Other bookers at the time, icluding the then head booker, would call me and email to check in on how I was doing on the show. Weird since I was never an official Gilman booker then or since. This was Beware's first Gilman show, and maybe S.T.F.U. as well.
3. December 7, 2001: Tear It Up (New Jersey), Holier Than Thou (Oxnard), Blown To Bits, Dystrophy at San Francisco State University (Carl Cordova's dorm). This was booked by myself and Max Ward to coincide with an open date in Tear It Up's tour schedule. I booked every band except for Tear It Up, but nobody knew or cared at the time. It was a good show either way.
4. February 10, 2002: Tragedy (Portland, OR), Tragatelo (Los Angeles), Born/Dead @ Gilman in Berkeley, CA. This is on record as a Jake kelly show. Depending on who you believe, etc., Mike Thorn might have had a hand in this show. He probably was contacted by Tragatelo who he passed along to Gilman at the same time I did, but they canceled and I contacted Blown To Bits who took their place. I also passed along Bill from Born/Dead's phone number to Jake for the purpose of officially booking them for the show (I'd already spoke with both Bill and Will about it). I was already booking two other shows with Tragedy that weekend, so you figure it out.
5. June 16, 2002: Watch Them Die, Laudanum, Pain Of Extinction (First Show, later changed their name to I Love A Parade), Hadan @ the CW Saloon in San Francisco, CA. This was a Lucifer's Hammer that we booked with the exception of Hadan, who were booked by Matt Shapiro. He is on record as the official booker.
6. June 14, 2003: Blown To Bits, Coaccion (Tijuana, Mexico), El Santo (Tijuana, Mexico) @ The Curve Bar in San Francisco. This was on the same night as the DSB/Assault show at Gilman. Bad news bears for sure. This was booked through a middle man by us for Coaccion and El Santo.
7. December 2, 2003: Watch Them Die,
Blessing The Hogs, Deathtoll
@ The Cat Club in San Francisco, CA. This is on record as a Matt
Shapiro show aka Lucifer's Hammer show. Matt wanted WTD to play,
but as is the case a lot during this period, the rest of the bill
didn't reflect the kind of show WTD wanted to play, so I was asked
to tweek (change) the bill some.
8. August 25, 2004: Watch Them Die, Deathtoll, Jewdriver @ The Golden Bull in Oakland, Ca ("Back To Oakland" an ongoing series of shows). WTD asked me to contact Scott Alcoholocaust about playing the Golden Bull as a back from tour show. I contacted him, and then I contacted both Deathtoll and Jewdriver. He later either contacted one of these bands again or someone missed the point. Either way, this is down as an Alcoholocaust Presents, but look at the bill. It's a no brainer.
8. July 28, 2005: Cruevo, SOSA, Schifosi (Australia), Strung Up, Malnourished @ The Arcadia Skate Ramp Hotel in Oakland, CA. This was booked by us for the B.O.B. Fest folks. The only band that we didn't directly put on the bill was SOSA, who decided to reform for that one B.O.B. show and were added to the bill later.
9. December 10, 2005: Deathtoll, Worhorse (Los Angeles), Holokaust (Los Angeles), Mascare @ Shady Acres in San Jose, CA. We were going to have this show at the Arcadia in Oakland, but decided that a Shady Acres show might be just what the doctor had ordered, so I called Big Phil and told him we had three bands. Phil always wants a local on the Shady Acres bills as well, so we asked him to contact Masacre from San Jose. The show was awesome.
FEEDBACK:
Wot I would like ta ad to this is dat, W/da crossover (Bay Area/L.A.) R.I.D. Fest. Brought togther some get friendships, The P.P. crew @ da tyme waz a great supportin' staff. The Pyrate Punx at the time of the 2002 R.I.D. Fest were all but defunct. What remained of that early crue became involved with Ear2TheGround Punx events, and from that we managed to eek out another 6 mos to a year from these fine folks (Russ, Jeremiah, Marcus, etc.) who had inspired UGZ and the Ear2TheGround Punx during the nineties when their crew was strong and held the biggest of the Libertatia fests (to this day). After the 2002 R.I.D. Fest, for which Russ did sound for outside shows in both the Bay Area, L.A., as well as the Long beach show, morale seemed high again, and the Pyrate Punx seemed to be back on track. This wasn't to last however, and most of that "loose crue" decided to disband rather than continue on as Pyrate Punx with Marcus, who will never stop being a Pyrate Punk. We all know that.
The fact of the matter is that the Pyrate Punx had no name involvement in either of the two R.I.D. FESTS. They didn't book a single band, they had no organized crew at the time, and Marcus had semi-retired from booking (although he still booked a show from time to time in spite of that claim). Marcus was a part of the Ear2TheGround Punx crew that ran and financed both fests (we pulled everything off by trading and occasionally by getting shit fronted to us), he was mainly our door guy at Burnt Ramen, but during the 2002 R.I.D. FEST he helped design logos used for t-shirts and banners, as well as helping to screen the t-shirts along with myself, Jeff S.T.F.U., and the cancer of that once promising scene Xian Calinsky (co-founder of Controlled By Plague). He also served as a conduit between Ear2TheGround Punx and Pyrate Punx co-founder Russ, of LUNG BUTTER and WORDBURGER zine fame. Our tribute to his efforts was expressed on the first night of the 2002 Fest, which we called "Pyrate Punx Night". We decorated Burnt Ramen with Pyrate Shyte, and consequently some people who attended that night thought that it was a Pyrate Punx show, but it wasn't. Mary from Long Beach decorated her house in Pyrate shyte as well to show solidarity when the Fest moved south the following week, but that show was booked entirely by myself, although we were definitely attempting show unity with what was left of the Pyrate crew, especially Russ, who was so important to the success of our free outdoor show at Warm water Cove, aka Pyrate Cove. The SoCal version of the 2002 R.I.D. Fest, after the Long Beach show, was taken over by the Pyrate Punx, no doubt. From that standpoint, that first crew went out like true Pyrates! They sailed the ship, plundered the booty, and raised their flags. We appreciate it to this day, but a grain a salt is called for when our history is used for hype and spin, even...when it's done by friends.
Read This: I just want to clarify that when I wrote the above, I used "cancer of that once promising scene" in reference to Xian Calinsky and Xian Calinsky alone. I don't think Tank Crimes Records is the cancer of the local scene in any way, shape, or form. Tank Crimes is the best new (ish) punk label in the Bay Area, easily. I was just saying that CBP later became TC, but minus Xian. To be even more specific, I'm not even referring to the local scene really, but the UGZ/Ear2Theground Punx scene specifically. Just because things didn't work out for myself or UGZ in terms of what went down after the time period detailed above, doesn't mean it wasn't a total positive for others involved. It clearly was, and still is. The UGZ scene was basically captured on the "Disturbing The Peace" comp that came out on Six Weeks records. All of those bands were playing shows previous to that, but the difference is that the mix of those scenes, styles, and the size of the shows were directly linked to UGZ and later the "Ear2TheGround Punx" label. That's about it. To me, this has become a kind of personal web site, but I guess in reality there are still people who search around and find shit I wrote on here...and never bother to ask me what I meant by a particular statement. So I hope this helps. - Jay
SPECIAL NOTES:
